Mega Man, super fighting robot... Or Ten year old with a gun?

Posted by Emptygoddess - November 2nd, 2009

We all know Mega Man. Or if you don't know Mega Man you should go out right now and buy one of the Mega Man collections, play them, decide which games in the series you like and which games you don't, go over to the capcom forums and get into flame wars about it.

But most of us know Mega Man. He is our friend! He is our savior! He is a super fighting robot who looks like he's ten or so. He's really cool. Or at least, I thought he was, until I realized just how bad a father his creator Dr. Light is. So he screwed up and now his old partner or whatever is trying to take over the world with his creations. What does he do? He gives his robot son thing battle armor and the ability to turn his hand into a gun.

Not really the best fathering move ever, but the world was in danger, so it can be over looked.

My issue? In-between horrible outbreaks of terror, it seems that Mega Man walks around in the armor all the time for the most part, and retains his ability to turn his hand into a gun. It should be noted that Dr. Light does seem to remove all the other abilities and weapons mega man gets between games, and yet lets him keep his gun hand.

I was young once, and I can tell you, if my hand could turn into a gun, there would be a lot of dead people in this world.

Parent: Go clean your room.

Me: Make me.

Parent: Look, clean up your room or you can't have friends over this weekend.

My gun hand: *BLAM*

Me: Well, that's one mess cleaned up.

My gun hand: *Cocks dramatically*

Sure Mega Man fights for everlasting peace and has a sense of unparalleled justice, but when your hand can turn into a laser canon at a thought, it doesn't take much for you to be staring at a smoking crater that is your sister after an argument over who gets to use the TV.

So I put the question to you, Dr. Light: Genius roboticist? Or Horrible parent?

Comments

HORIBALLSUCKER PARENT

That was not one of the choices, but I shall allow it.

horrible metal fetishist?

Or, glorious, glorious metal fetishist!

I'm gonna go with horrible parent, but he did have good intentions...just not a lot of forethought.

Hopefully his mistake shall not be our ruin.

Megaman is still under the influence of the 3 laws, therefore he can't harm humans. He only ever destroys other machines, and even when facing Wily he only attacks his machines and not him directly.

So Light is a genius robotic engineer, in my opinion.

I dunno, as far as I know the only mention of the 'three laws' I any of the original mega man games was the end of the 7th one. In which mega man ignored it and tried to shoot wily in the head.

He wasn't successful, and he did seem to feel bad about it, but still... I think it is clear we cannot trust this blue murderer and his demonic demon hand.

Um, excuse me it's MegaMAN. Just because he's a little person doesn't mean he can't save the world >:(

I never said he couldn't save the world. I'm thankful that he is out there, every day, fighting for everlasting peace, murdering his brethren robots for my safety and amusement.

I just don't want to bump into him on the street, or like, cut him off on the freeway. Imagine Mega Man road rage. It could go badly.

If megaman sees this he'll probably fire-rape you

I don't know why a robot that has no sexual urges would jump strait to the rape card, but I sense that you are right.

HORRIBLE PARENT!!! for giving him the power of turning his hand into a gun at thought.....(man i wish i could turn my hand into a gun. PEW PEW!!! oops, there goes bob......)

I never liked bob.

At least he made a safety mechanism that prevents him from ducking, or pointing it anywhere else other than "forward".

Ducking would have made him unstoppable. Dr. Light could not allow this.

What's worse is that he makes all this extra armor to further Megaman's reign of destruction.

Dr. Light, he can't stop at just one genocide.

oor iz he a niggger

He might be. I guess. I'll ask him some day.

"So I think I'll go with plan Gamma. Having my brain put in a robot." -Post 6.

Everyone knows hand saws are cooler than hand guns, but then again you might just be one of the nameless enemies Megaman slaughters!

For some reason the idea of a person taking that much stock and remembrance of the things I say is horrifying.

I don't remember or retain any of the things I say, you should not either.

I'd say both. I mean, nobody's perfect, even genius roboticists.

it's like you've known him your entire life.

Dr. Light makes Dr. Wily look like a dumbass. After nine games with 8 robot masters each, Wily has been unable to beat Megaman once. Dr. Wily has had 72 of his beautiful robot children destroyed.

Therefore Dr. Wily is the most horrible parent.

Or Mega Man is just a bully.

Looks to be 10? I don't think you've seen the original US box art for Megaman 1.

Or perhaps you forget how the creator actualy invisioned him.

ten year old wit teh gun.

Because giving children guns is awesome.

Looks like Mega Man is more mature than you were when you were 10. lol.

Aparently so.

Maybe Megaman will kill all the cars?

It would be nice.

I would say that everyone is at fault, the one who made the laser cannon clearly didn't understand the ramifications of giving a weapon to a child. The parent clearly didn't discipline their child well enough, and didn't tell them, "not to talk to strangers." You can't blame the child, most children do not think of the consequences of their own actions. After all, if I had a laser cannon, I'd blow things for the hell of it too. Whoever thought of giving a child a laser mounted arm cannon, should have been the first pile dust, after saying, "we can rebuild him we have the technology."

Fear. Fear will keep the other systems in line. Fear of my ten year old robotic son.

Don't question the ethics of the matter, just question why you would not want a laser gun for a hand. Imagine a world where all young children had laser guns. It would give playground doge ball a hole new meaning. More over, child abuse would most likely no longer exist. Fear of angry gun welding children solves all issues.

Except the issue of angry gun wielding children.

That's no issue, its the solution.

Not to all of them. One will win, and he or she will be battle hardened and deadly.
